I chose this theme because I like the landscape and how our environment looks, and protecting it from changing is also gonna have a huge contribution to the wildlife living in that certain environment thus, making it a great combination.

I want to use the Mountains, Forests, Oceans, and animals as my subject of matter. With these subjects, I will be able to create a visual metaphor and meaning to my artwork.

A news item that interests me

Coronavirus
During the holidays, there was a new virus discovered in China. It was called nCoV or also known as Novel Coronavirus. Coronaviruses are illness that can range from a common cold to a more severe disease such as SARS or MERS. These viruses are said to be transmitted between animals and people. The new virus was discovered by the Chinese Authorities this recent January. The authorities have said that most of the initial cases of the virus occurred in people who worked or visited the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, China, where most of the variety of wild animals are sold. The virus has currently killed 420 people and there are 20,438 cases of infection in China and different countries. The new virus can be spread by sneezing and coughing. 

This news interests me because of how it quickly spread from one person to another and the countries that are infected by the virus.  The virus quickly spread in China because of the number of people in China and how many people travel to different countries.

This affects the world because, if it continues to infect a lot of countries, especially the countries with poor healthcare, making it harder to contain causing more cases of the virus, thus making the virus a global problem.

This makes me think if I were in their situation, what can I do to prevent getting the virus. I would avoid close contact with people who are sick, avoid touching my nose, eyes, and mouth with unwashed hands, stay home and always clean frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Market Day Reflection

Yesterday, there was a Market day and we were a part of it. I and my friend are selling cinnamon doughnuts and Coffee jelly which we sold out. A lot of things went well, one of them is we made a profit of 58 dollars. Another thing that went well is our product was enjoyed by the customers and all of it is cooked perfectly.  I was glad nothing went wrong and the day went as smooth as possible. Even though it was our second time making cinnamon doughnuts people really enjoyed it and now I wish we saved up some for ourselves. The coffee jelly was really cold and refreshing which is perfect yesterday because it was really hot and sunny. The Market day was fun I enjoyed selling and calling in customers. If we could do this again we change if we got to do it again is were gonna make more coffee jelly and add fillings to our doughnuts so that there's more variety for the customers to choose.

(SOST) Treaty Essay

Historians argue that understanding the cause of significant events is much more important than just remembering dates, facts, and figures about things in the past. In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement signed between Maori-Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa-and the British. The Treaty of Waitangi is needed to bring peace and order between Maori and the British in New Zealand. Although it was signed in the past, The Treaty of Waitangi is very much important in Aotearoa.

Before the Treaty of Waitangi, British whalers acted negatively and causing chaos in Kororareka. Maori people are getting abused by the British because of their chaotic behavior. Without the treaty, the British Whalers will continue to cause havoc in Kororareka. The British whalers we're drinking heavily, fighting and a lot of prostitution is happening in Kororareka. This results that the Treaty of Waitangi is needed to make an agreement to create laws stop the chaotic behavior of the British whalers from happening again.

The missionaries wanted to help the Maori to protect their rights by signing the treaty. The missionaries influenced the Maori to sign the treaty by gaining their trust. The missionaries also introduced Christianity, Literature and farming methods to the Maori. Because of the missionaries, the Maori got influenced to sign the treaty and protect their rights.

The musket's wars changed tribal boundaries, killed a lot of Maori, approximately 20,000 people, and forced other tribes to trade muskets in order to balance the military power. The introduction of muskets caused a lot of wars between the tribes in New Zealand. Many Maori are killed during the wars. Other tribes traded food and flax to the British peoples in order to obtain muskets. Without the treaty, more people will get killed, tribal boundaries will continue to shift and musket wars will continue.

Was there anything in place before the treaty. Interestingly, the declaration of independence happened before the treaty. 34 Northland chief made a deal with the British: Mana (sovereignty) of New Zealand remained Maori but they can only trade with the British. Maori declaring themselves to have sovereignty over the country made New Zealand an independent country under the United Tribes of New Zealand and asked the king for protection from other countries from taking over the country.  This was important because there were no laws created to protect Maori as had been agreed in the Declaration. The declaration mainly happened because the Maori wanted to trade with other countries and to stop the lawlessness happening in New Zealand. Signing a new treaty would have resolve this.

This essay has demonstrated that the signing of the treaty was needed to put up laws in New Zeland to protect the rights of Maori. It showed that without the Treaty the Musket Wars and the unlawful behaviours of the whalers would've continued. We can learn from this essay that the declaration of independence was important even though it didn't work as planned. It helped New Zealand stop violence and start creating laws resulting in a Treaty of Waitangi. These laws have now improved and made New Zealand a more peaceful country. The Treaty of Waitangi helped New Zealand to be a better country.

The number of Maori people changed because of the arrival of the Europeans and colonizing them.

The numbers of Europeans changed because of the Europeans colonizing the Maori people. Sailors and Whalers also arrive at New Zealand making the population of Europeans changed.
