(SOST) Treaty Essay

Historians argue that understanding the cause of significant events is much more important than just remembering dates, facts, and figures about things in the past. In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement signed between Maori-Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa-and the British. The Treaty of Waitangi is needed to bring peace and order between Maori and the British in New Zealand. Although it was signed in the past, The Treaty of Waitangi is very much important in Aotearoa.

Before the Treaty of Waitangi, British whalers acted negatively and causing chaos in Kororareka. Maori people are getting abused by the British because of their chaotic behavior. Without the treaty, the British Whalers will continue to cause havoc in Kororareka. The British whalers we're drinking heavily, fighting and a lot of prostitution is happening in Kororareka. This results that the Treaty of Waitangi is needed to make an agreement to create laws stop the chaotic behavior of the British whalers from happening again.

The missionaries wanted to help the Maori to protect their rights by signing the treaty. The missionaries influenced the Maori to sign the treaty by gaining their trust. The missionaries also introduced Christianity, Literature and farming methods to the Maori. Because of the missionaries, the Maori got influenced to sign the treaty and protect their rights.

The musket's wars changed tribal boundaries, killed a lot of Maori, approximately 20,000 people, and forced other tribes to trade muskets in order to balance the military power. The introduction of muskets caused a lot of wars between the tribes in New Zealand. Many Maori are killed during the wars. Other tribes traded food and flax to the British peoples in order to obtain muskets. Without the treaty, more people will get killed, tribal boundaries will continue to shift and musket wars will continue.

Was there anything in place before the treaty. Interestingly, the declaration of independence happened before the treaty. 34 Northland chief made a deal with the British: Mana (sovereignty) of New Zealand remained Maori but they can only trade with the British. Maori declaring themselves to have sovereignty over the country made New Zealand an independent country under the United Tribes of New Zealand and asked the king for protection from other countries from taking over the country.  This was important because there were no laws created to protect Maori as had been agreed in the Declaration. The declaration mainly happened because the Maori wanted to trade with other countries and to stop the lawlessness happening in New Zealand. Signing a new treaty would have resolve this.

This essay has demonstrated that the signing of the treaty was needed to put up laws in New Zeland to protect the rights of Maori. It showed that without the Treaty the Musket Wars and the unlawful behaviours of the whalers would've continued. We can learn from this essay that the declaration of independence was important even though it didn't work as planned. It helped New Zealand stop violence and start creating laws resulting in a Treaty of Waitangi. These laws have now improved and made New Zealand a more peaceful country. The Treaty of Waitangi helped New Zealand to be a better country.

SOST Essay

As the years go by our technology has changed overtime. In this essay I will talk about the technology used by the Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Romans, and the cavemans. These technological advances includes the Ancient Egyptian Mathematics,  Hieroglyphics, Aqueducts, and stone tools. These examples will show you how technology changed overtime.

Technology in the Stone Age period includes the invention of the stone tools. This is important because it helped the caveman's hunt for food, gather resources, and self defense from predators. The caveman’s developed stone toolmaking, about 2.6 million years ago in the Early Stone Age. The tools were made by hammerstones, stone cores, and sharp stone flakes. The oldest stone tools ever discovered was in Gona in Ethiopia. This means that the invention of stone tools was an important piece of technology that was made by the cavemans that we still use today. As the years go by our knowledge of making tools grew and we started to use metal as an alternative for stone.

Technology in the Ancient Egypt period includes the invention of mathematics, and hieroglyphics. The use of mathematics is important because, we learned how to use it to improve our skills in building structures and include it in our daily life. We also learned a new form of writing called Hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics was a step up from the cave art because it is more difficult to understand , it is also used to design walls on temples, and tombs. Ancient Egyptian mathematics was invented about 3000 to 300 BC from the Old Kingdom of Egypt until the beginning Hellenestic Egypt, this mathematics was used to build the pyramids in Giza. Hieroglyphics was invented about 3300 to 3200  BC. This means that mathematics and hieroglyphics was an important piece of technology that was made by the Ancient Egyptians that we still use today.

Another important piece of technology is the invention of the aqueducts that was invented in the Ancient Rome period. The invention of the aqueducts was important because it helped the Romans transport water from the mountains to the city. The first aqueduct that was built is Aqua Appia in 312 BC who was built by Appius Claudius Caecus. The aqueduct has a length of 16 kilometers. This means that the invention of the aqueduct is an important piece of technology that helped us transport water in different places that we still use today as modern day plumbing.

Because of these inventions our technology has changed overtime. Firstly The Ancient Egyptians helps us develop our language and our form of writing, Secondly the Romans helped us improved our knowledge in transporting water from different places, and Lastly the cavemans helped us use tools to make our everyday life much more easier. Because of these inventions our technology changed overtime and change how we use technology now.

SEEL Paragraph
As technology becomes more advanced the human population increases. We can see in the bar graph that the human population increased because of technology. 400,000 years ago stone tools and primitive weapons were invented, in order to hunt food and to protect ourselves from predators we developed stone tools and weapons. Because of the tools and weapons we used, we protected ourselves from predators giving us a chance to live longer, populate and climb up the food chain.

SEEL PARAGRAPH
Recruiting a children and using it for military purposes is harmful for the community and the children themselves. It affects the community and the children because of what can the damaged can be done to the society and the families . A lot families will grief for there children, because most of the children are in risk of dying. Approximately 10 000 children die because of getting involved in a war. Child Soldiers are also known to get treated violently. Child soldiers are suffering to sexual harassment, bullying, unlawful treatment, and psychological illnesses for example Trauma. Most children who witnessed death in front of their eyes will likely to suffer from that illness Trauma. One of my research say's they joined the military group known as the Anti-Balaka because they want to avenge their family members. Because of their anger burning to their heart they end up joining the group voluntarily .This takes away they're Human Rights by not having a life of a child, the freedom they want, the freedom for them to play and to make they're own decision, it also takes away their right to be educated. Like the children in Central Africa. Children are used because they are easier to manipulate and they are also compliant or obedient. Children are recruited in Middle East, Africa and Asia. Children are not used for war and violence, children are supposed to be free and living the life of a child. A child that has the right to play freely and to be educated, but because of these cruel behavior of ours we are putting our future to a great danger. Don't wait.. Act now.

10 Worst Countries for Child Labor

In Social Studies we are learning about Human Rights and one of our topics are Slavery the part that we are currently learning is Forced Child Labour.
So what is Forced Child Labor?
It is about children being forced to work and to absent school to prevent they're own learning/ they're right to education. But also child labour can be dangerous for children, mentally, socially, and physically, one of the example are, not getting enough rest getting crushed with rocks and dirt in the mines plus inhaling toxic chemicals. Making work children at a very young age is very unacceptable specially to the smaller kids Imagine how young they are and they're working tirelessly, working in brick kilns, carpet factory, and working in mines! Mines that are too dangerous for kids and only grown men should be working. Child labuor must be stopped. Here is the worst Countries for Child Labour, This map shows the location/country of the worst child labour, if you click a pin it will show what type of child labor takes place in that country and an estimated population of children that are in child labour
